Lower Owens Drift Trips
A unique way to get away from weekend crowds and explore new,
trout infested water is to go by boat. Since most of the Lower
Owens River below the Wild Trout Area is not accessible by foot,
drifting is the best way to get around. Still the ticket for
guiding one angler, my Outcast pontoon boat has worked unbelievably
well, and this season, my new, 15-foot Hyde drift boat will
accommodate two anglers in style. I chose this boat for its
state-of-the-art profile, excellent draft in shallow water,
and hull construction that keeps it warm in winter, cool in
summer and quiet always. It is the finest drift boat in the
Owens Valley.
During our drift trips, I teach and refine techniques such as
nymph fishing with and without indicators, using streamers with
sinking lines, and long- and short-line trout hunting with dry
flies.
Drift-boat fishing can accommodate anglers of all kinds. It’s
perfect for the beginner or advanced, the wader or non-wader,
and the young to young at heart.
8 Hour Drift Trip Include: Flies, Complete Wading Gear, Rod/Reel, Terminal Tackle, Lunch and Beverages.

Lower Owens Walk-in Trips
The Lower Owens is a tail-water below Pleasant Valley Reservoir.
Located approximately 15 miles from from the town of Bishop,
this fertile water holds more fish per mile than any other section
of the Owens drainage. The Wild Trout Area is a four-mile section
of river set aside for bait less anglers and has a zero keep
limit. This prolific brown trout fishery is open year round
and is easily accessible buy car and foot. The winter water
flows are mild and are not difficult for any level of angler
to wade. The aquatic insect hatches are good to excellent all
winter. Skiing a few runs in the morning and fishing dry flies
in the afternoon is a local’s perfect day. Come join us!
8 Hour Full-Day Trip Includes: Flies, Complete Wading Gear, Rod/Reel, Terminal Tackle Lunch and Beverages.
5 Hour Half-Day Trip Includes: Flies, Complete Wading Gear, Rod/Reel, Terminal Tackle and Beverages.

Owens River Gorge Walk-in Trips
The Owens Gorge is the natural drainage located below Crowley
Lake Dam. From the late 40’s to the early 50’s,
the City of Los Angeles took this water and diverted it into
pipes which supplied several hydo electric power plants
with the water ending up in the Pleasant Valley Reservoir. This
water eventually went into the Los Angeles Aqueduct. In the
late 80’s, the Owens Gorge was once again filled with
water, and the court directed that it should never go dry again.
It was restocked with German brown trout, which now average
8 tor 12 inches in length. The annual water flows are around
50 cubic feet per second. This small tail-water fishery is open
to fish year round, but in winter months its conditions are
perfect. It is only accessible by foot, and the 30-minute hikes
in and out are not recommended for the weak of heart. This untamed
fishery is comprised mostly of pocket water, but it has its
share of pools and runs. The fish are spooky and a stealthy
approach is mandatory. The techniques I teach and refine are
short-line dry fly fishing, shallow and deep water nymphing,
and of course Jaeger’s ninja-style school of approaches.
This fishery can accommodate entry to intermediate level anglers
and will challenge the advanced.
